Even for beauty pro’s, it’s important to brush up on your make-up skills every now and then. So, I headed to Make Up For Ever in Dubai Mall for a quick one-on-one with their Regional Education Manager, Sam Botrous.

After talking through my skin type, daily beauty routine and make-up concerns it was time to play…

Sam prepped my skin with the HD Elixir Instant Radiance Hydrating Serum (Dhs170) a super light weight gel formula that dries instantly – perfect for humid weather and my combination skin. After applying a fine layer of the High Definition Foundation (Dhs190), chosen for its flawless finish and buildable coverage (this will never make your face look ‘cakey’) it was onto a lesson in contouring.

To sculpt razor sharp cheekbones à la Keria Knightley take the Sculpting Kit (Dhs180) and with the darker shade, dust a line underneath your cheekbones from the apple of the cheek right up to your earlobe. Use the lighter shade to highlight the tops of the cheekbone, taking this right up to the temples and you’re ready for your close-up.

As this is a lesson, Sam does one side and here I am completing the other side, under his watchful eye of course.

Every girls dream – a giant eye shadow palette full of rainbow brights!

For my dark eyes and blonde hair, Sam suggests a palette of warm bronzes would suit me best coupled with a pair of of-the-moment amped-up brows. After brushing the Aqua Brow Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector (Dhs199) through my arches, Sam applied a delicate line of liquid liner. The trick, he says, is to use an eyeliner brush and keep close to the lashes. Elongate the line out a little beyond the lash line for a doe-eyed look.

Like most ladies I have to apply my own mascara. The Smoky Lash in Brown (Dhs110) is perfect for daytime and in Black for a little extra drama at night

A slick of lipstick in Rouge Artist Natural (Dhs105) in Nude Beige completes my bespoke look

Not forgetting, a spritz of setting spray  to keep everything in its place
