Dolls are not just for children. In EW HQ we’re still obsessed with Barbie, so much so one team member even spent the day dressed as one, which is why we’re so excited about the unveiling of an exhibition of limited edition Barbie collector dolls on show today at Mall of the Emirates.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary (yep, it really is that old) Mall Of The Emirates is hosting a stylish exhibition showcasing a stunning haute couture collection of Barbie dolls, which will be on display at the the Central Galleria.

Twenty four limited editions of the world famous doll will be on display from September 2-8. And, if that wasn’t exciting enough, each doll will be wearing outfits inspired from the last 50 years of runway shows. Among the designer wears is creations by Givenchy, Versace, Coach, Oscar de la Renta and Dior – many looks we would wear ourselves.

In keeping with the theme, from September 9-14, the Mall Of The Emirates will also be hosting a pop-up Barbie Hand Spa where children can enjoy some nail art and glitter, motif tattoos.

The Barbie doll, which is 56 years old, was created in America by businesswoman Ruth Handler who designed the doll using a German version called Bild Lilli as her inspiration. Throughout it’s history the Barbie doll has been a symbol of what is deemed fashionable, it’s even played a part in feminist movements. A modern-day icon, even top designers including Karl Lagerfeld have collaborated with Barbie.

Celebrating 10 years of “making everyday extra-ordinary” the mall is hosting a series of events and competitions to mark its milestone – 10 years of wow! As well as the haute couture Barbie exhibition, Mall Of The Emirates is offering a series of fantastic competition prizes from round the world trips with Dhs1 million to Dhs10,000 money prizes to 10 shoppers every week.
