It has been announced movement in and outside the UAE’s capital will be suspended.

The movement ban in and out of Abu Dhabi will begin Tuesday, June 2 for one week, the Abu Dhabi Media Office stated.

“Abu Dhabi Emergency and Crisis Committee for the COVID-19 Pandemic, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police and DOH, have announced a ban on movement entering & exiting the emirate and between its regions (Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, & Al Dhafrah) starting from Tuesday 2 June, for 1 week,” the statement said.

The ban is in effect for everyone, including UAE citizens. However, movements between regions are permitted in the allotted curfew hours of 10pm to 6am.

There are also exemptions available for those who are “employees in vital sectors, chronic disease patients visiting hospitals and the transportation of necessary goods”, the Abu Dhabi Media Office’s statement added.

The ban on moving in and out of Abu Dhabi is in place to “enhance the effectiveness” of the national sterilisation programme.

This move comes after the curfew hours in the United Arab Emirates were shortened by two hours over the weekend.

It was announced by the Ministry a lockdown from 10pm to 6am would be in place in order for the national sterlisation programme to take place.

However, this does not include Dubai – the current curfew hours for the emirate are 11pm to 6am.

The reduction in curfew for Dubai and the rest of the nation comes after lockdown hours were previously in place from 8pm to 6am.
