Dubai’s most stylish sisters, Lailli and Alizey Mirza, work Gap’s new season staples into their wardrobes.
In 2011, the 17-year-old twins took their love of all things designer – think impressive collections of Louboutins and Birkins – and started a style blog.
Fast-forward three years and Lailli and Alizey are considered fashion elite, with a stack of coveted invites arriving daily, a loyal following of style fans and even their own line of printed leggings.
For a day out in Downtown Dubai, Alizey opts for a casual Gap oxford shirt, loosely tucked into white skinny jeans and teamed with classic tan ballet flats. She tops off the look with gold accessories and her accessory of choice, a pair of aviator shades.
Lailli took a more glam approach to daytime chic, with a nautical Gap pullover teamed with a leather mini skirt, cinched in with a shiny metal belt. To top off her look, the young fashion fan decided on opaque black tights with chunky skyscraper platforms.
We caught up with the twins to talk style essentials and A/W trends…
Describe your personal style?
L: It’s fairly eclectic. I love to express myself through clothing. My style varies depending on my mood on that given day, I enjoy being a chameleon and trying out different things.
A: Simple and classic, I’m not a huge fan of colour, I prefer neutrals.
What are your favorite A/W13-14 trends and why?
L: Over-the-knee boots, they are my go-to shoes every winter. Turtlenecks are also on my list of trends to try too.
A: When it comes to autumn in London, I’m never too fussed about wearing any certain trends, I just want to stay as warm as possible – which usually means leather trousers, lots of fur and chunky knits!
What’s your top tip for styling your body shape?
L: As I’m slightly pear shaped, I often opt for high-waist bottoms to accentuate my small waist and disguise my hips.
A: Since I’m more top-heavy than Lailli, I’m not able to get away with plain white t-shirts as easily as she is, so I opt for loose, sheer shirts – they can be dressed up or down depending on the bottoms I wear. I’ve got fairly long, slim legs so I’m often wearing fitted trousers or leggings.
If you could style anyone – who would it be?
L: I’d love to be Rihanna’s stylist, her recent outfit choices are totally up my alley. I think the UK pop group Little Mix need a serious wardrobe makeover!
A: I haven’t been a fan of Kim Kardashian’s style lately as I feel she looks very uncomfortable in what she wearing, which is never a good look.
Who do you get your style inspiration from?
L: I’ve always been inspired by the Olsen twins’ effortless style, as well as Barbara Martelo, Christine Centenera and Miraslava Duma’s style, however recently I’ve added Rihanna to the list of people I get style inspiration from.
A: I also look up to the Olsen twins for style inspiration, as they are always classy yet casual. I also admire Olivia Palermo’s style – she’s always so well put-together.
