International fashion weeks may be over, but the celebration of style is well and truly in the UAE thanks to the second edition of Arab Fashion Week, which kickstarted yesterday (March 16) at The St Regis Dubai.
The extravagant event began by showcasing elegant designs from the ready-couture autumn/winter 2016 collections of five internationally renowned designers. Here is a round-up of the fashion highlights from day one of Arab Fashion Week:
Hamda Al Fahim
Kicking off the evening was Hamda Al Fahim, whose debut collection in Bloomingdale’s-Dubai has rapidly become a top seller.
Highlights: Intricate embroidery on atelier gowns, folds of silk and floral detailing with a warm natural palette created an serene ambiance during the Arab Fashion Week Ready-Couture. All the silhouettes were inspired by the idea of a modern fairy, wearing magical pieces that enhanced her beauty and grace.
J By Jordy
Known for her intricate geometric designs, J By Jordy ready couture collection brought her exquisite elegance to the runway.
Highlights: Spiral geometry was prominent as was abstract forms, translating luminescent glow and undulating movement.
Laura Mancini
The Italian designer certainly knowns how to compliment the female silhouette in her ultra sleek and chic design.
Highlights: A bold colour palette of silk dark reds and royal blues. Tartan capes and rich velvet fabrics made us long for winter.
Giada Curti
Maintaining a monochromed theme, Giada Curti makes haute couture ready-to-wear, hence ready couture.
Highlights: A unique and feminine combination of pearls and sheer lace.
Abed Mahfouz
Last but not least, closing the evening was Abed Mahfouz collection whose collection was almost an ode to lady like Hollywood glam. We could envision Audrey Hepburn wearing each piece.
Highlights: Intricate embroidery, exceptional colours and luxurious design.
It’s not all about the grown-ups at the Arab Fashion Week as the event also featured four renowned designers showcasing their children’s collection. The adorable Kid’s Fashion Show was orchestrated by talented choreographers Meri Marabini and Titti Baiocchi.
PINCO PALLINO
Pretty Pastels and dainty dresses for the little ones took over the runway at the Pico Pallino Collection.
Highlights: Accessories of thin gold bands and overcoats also highlighted the runway
MSGM Kids
The MSGM kids featured a rather casual and upbeat trends on the runway.
Highlights: Warm jacket and winter boots induced the right amount of fun to the colourful collection.
Miss Blumarine
Elegance enveloped the Miss Blumarine collection as it brought bright colours of red, whites and yellows to the Arab Fashion Week’s Winter Garden.
Highlights: Free flowing dresses and shining shimmering high boots flaunted on the runway
Miss Grant
Dynamic and edgy are two words that described the Miss Grant collection closing the extravagant Arab Fashion Week.
Highlights: Boots, leather pants and funky accessories were impressively seen at the creative show.
