Drama and surprises
Is it us, or did the stars really turn it out for the 92nd Academy Awards last night? Natalie Portman made a statement in a Dior cape that had names of snubbed female directors embroidered into it, while Billie Eilish reinvented the dress code for the next generation with her Chanel tweed suit.
Arab designer played their part in delivering unparalleled glamour to the red carpet, most notably Sandra Oh turning heads in an intricate Elie Saab gown while Egyptian star Youssra stepped out in Zuhair Murad. Documentary ‘For Sama’ might not have walked away with an Oscar, but film director Waad Al-Kateab wore a stunning gown from Syrian designer Reem Masri featuring an engraved poem, translating to “we dare to dream and we will not regret dignity.”
There were also plenty of ‘green’ style choices, for example Margot Robbie chose a Chanel dress from the label’s spring 1994 Haute Couture collection, while Kaitlyn Dever opted for a red Louis Vuitton gown that was made with a silk satin certified by Red Carpet Green Dress.
