Angelina, the famous Parisian tearoom, is one of those places that precedes it reputation. The original Angelina, in Paris, is in every travel book going, so we decided to check out the Dubai patisserie to see if it lives up to its international sister.
DÉCOR
Luxurious and authentic, perfectly bringing to life the aesthetics and elegance of 20th century France. Everything from the Provençal–style chairs to the Art Deco lighting and wall-mounted mirrors exudes traditional Parisian charm. Its entrance is bright and airy with a beautiful display of the signature pastries, chocolates and sweet delicacies.
FOOD
Angelina is renowned for having the best hot chocolate in the world, so in the name of journalism we had to try it. Made out of thick melted dark chocolate and accompanied by a light cream, it is pure indulgence and it certainly lives up to its credentials.
Being a tearoom we were skeptical about the mains, however, we needn’t have been. We were blown away by the fillet steak that was cooked to perfection and literally melted in the mouth. The seabass was equally as sublime.
With an illustrious reputation for its sweet goods, choosing dessert was a challenge. Eventually, after much deliberation, we opted for the signature pastry, the Mont-Blanc – a chocolate dome-shaped chestnut cream pastry with meringue and whipped cream nestled right in the middle. Let’s just say we were in chocolate heaven.
AMBIENCE
From the moment we walked through the doors we were struck by the sheer decadence and charming atmosphere. Take a seat at the front of the restaurant and imagine you’re people watching in Paris.
