It’s been nine years in the making, but Andy Murray has finally put a ring on it, as reports claim that he and long-term girlfriend Kim Sears are engaged. The 27-year-old tennis superstar has been dating Kim, 26, since they met at the US Open in 2005.
At the time Kim was just 17, and 18-year-old Andy was yet to acquire the fame and fortune that comes with being Britain’s number one tennis star. He once said, “I’m lucky, I know she isn’t with me because I’m in the spotlight.”
Over the years she’s been a loyal courtside fixture, and the notoriously private pair have largely ignored pressing questions about marriage and kids. The first major tournament Kim attended was in California in 2006, and after beating heavyweight player Andy Roddick Murray said, “”It’s the first time Kim has come to a tournament. That made me quite relaxed. I’ll have to take her to some more tournaments.”
For fashionistas her sideline support has been all about the impeccable blowouts and designer attire. Her penchant for Mulberry handbags and Victoria Beckham dresses has seen her on many best-dressed lists, rivaling the style of many tennis-loving celebrities during tournaments. The Telegraph even ran the headline ‘Kim Sears reinvents the WAG at Wimbledon’.
While it seems that Kim has been a constant in Andy’s ever-changing life, the pair did briefly split in 2009. Rarely speaking to the media about their relationship, it’s little surprise that neither of them offered a reason for their six-month break, however reports range from spending too much time apart to Andy’s addiction to video games. Since their reconciliation, there’s been more pressure than ever to tie the knot.
The soon-to-be-weds live in a Dhs29 million mansion in Oxshott, Surrey with their two border terriers, Rusty and Maggie. While we don’t think married life will change much for this quiet couple, we can’t be the only ones eager to see which designer is lucky enough to make Kim’s dress.
