What does this new role entail? Clooney will be heading up a panel comprising of the world’s best legal minds to advise the government on improving media freedom and examine the current laws protecting journalists in the country.
“Through my legal work defending journalists I have seen first-hand the ways in which reporters are being targeted and imprisoned in an effort to silence them and prevent a free media,” she said in a statement.
The UK and Canada have launched a global campaign to #DefendMediaFreedom and shine a spotlight on media abuses.
