“I was overwhelmed with the love and support from everyone.”

We’re well-versed in the mood-boosting possibilities of a spa day around here, especially when you’re going through a hard time.

A few creature comforts can make all the difference when life isn’t going smoothly, and that’s exactly what four Dubai women with health problems were offered recently.

Fina, Marwa, Sarah and Sharifa were brought together by the Al Jalila Foundation at the Palazzo Versace for a day of laughter and indulgence.

The women each face their own struggles with their health and have received medical support from the foundation, which was founded by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Their day at the Palazzo Versace was organised through the foundation’s Glamour For Good initiatuve. It’s about bringing some luxury back into their lives, says Ayesha Shahdad of the Al Jalila Foundation.

“Our patients… have gone through some traumatic experiences due to their medical conditions and, all too often, life’s indulgences have been pushed aside,” she says.

“We are thrilled to give these courageous women the extra special care and attention they deserve, offering them a distraction from their daily cares and the chance to enjoy a day of luxurious pampering.”

With professional hair and makeup, personal styling, and jewellery on loan from Damas, Fina, Marwa, Sarah and Sharifa got the full royal treatment.

The foundation’s support has been transformative, says Sharifa. She was bedridden for several years before receiving her knee replacement.

“I am living my life without limitation now and I really enjoyed this special day,” she says.

Fina, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, says she “felt like a princess for a day,” while Marwa, who’s recovering from a heart transplant, says she “was overwhelmed with the love and support from everyone.”

It was a day of positivity and hope, Sarah says.

Founded in 2013 and named for HH Sheikh Mohammed and HRH Princess Haya’s daughter, the Al Jalila Foundation supports medical research and treatment in the UAE.
