The new retail hub will be twice the size of The Dubai Mall…
Shopaholics of Dubai, take a deep breath. It’s just been announced that another massive shopping mall is being built in the emirate – and it’s going to be even bigger than our current haven, The Dubai Mall.
Dubai Square will be located within the upcoming Dubai Creek Harbour development, and will boast 8.07 million square feet of gross retail space, according to Gulf Business. It will essentially be an indoor city.
While The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest by total area, it only has 3.77 million square feet of retail space. Gross retail space means any space that can be rented out to shops, restaurants, etc – so not open spaces or atriums.
This will likely make Dubai Square the new biggest shopping mall in the world, even trumping the planned Deira Islands project, which is set to have 4.5 million square feet of gross leasable space.

The Dubai Mall just got even bigger (yes, really)…
So, what will we find inside? Dubai Square will be spread across three levels, and will be home to the Middle East’s biggest Chinatown, which was announced last week, as well as an events arena, cineplex, waterpark, and art district, and of course, plenty of luxury shops.
But that’s not all – the mall will feature some groundbreaking shopping technology, such as the ability to shop via desktop or mobile. It sounds like mobile apps and click-and-collect services will be a big part of the experience – and possibly even delivery drones, based on this video:
Dubai Square’s ground floor will be home to the events arena, which will feature 3D projection mapping, theatrical sound and lighting, and high wire rigging. We can expect to see concerts, celebrity performances, acrobatics shows and exhibitions here.
The first floor will have a four-lane boulevard with retail, dining and leisure outlets. We’re most excited about the smart fitting rooms, which will have interactive mirrors, as well as personalised AI recommendations. It all sounds a bit like Cher’s wardrobe in Clueless (we love).
The second floor will feature activities such as an ‘Ice Adventure’, cineplex, waterpark, sports arena, supermarket and a metro link. The mall will also be linked to Dubai Creek Tower – set to become Dubai’s new tallest tower – through an underground extension.
While there’s no word yet on when exactly the mall will be completed, we can already see ourselves spending a lot of time here. Time to start saving those dirhams…
