All eyes were supposed to be on the field, but ours couldn’t help drifting to the fashion…
The annual Cartier International Dubai Polo Challenge is always a stylish affair – it is under the patronage of the always-effortless HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, after all.
And this year was no exception, with some of the Emirates’ best dressed turning up at Dubai’s Desert Palm on Saturday 5 November.
Here’s who upped the style stakes on the day…

The royal fittingly chose royal blue for the event, pairing a timeless silk shirt with a pleated, printed skirt. We particularly adore the loose waves, and red lip against the cobalt blouse.
All white on the night
Victoria’s Secret supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio was this year’s special guest, and the star donned a romantic off-shouldered number (and managed to keep it super-fresh and clean in the way only a true professional can). The chunky gold collar is especially lust-worthy.
Crowning glory
Tamara Al Gabani may have chosen a similar hue to the red carpet, but that glorious floral headpiece ensured she didn’t blend into the background.
Playing peekaboo
From the front, Natalia Shustova’s ice-white shift was stunning in its modern simplicity – but in motion, the skirt opened up to reveal a beautifully embroidered lace lining. It’s like the style equivalent of a Kinder Surprise.
Lady in red
Aliaa Elesseily proved the sartorial power of head-to-toe scarlet – although we’re a bit jealous. Those Aquazzura heels have been on our Net-A-Porter wishlist for some months now…
Flower power
The oversized blooms and bold palette of this lady’s gown jumped out at us – plus we’ve always had a penchant for eveningwear that features pockets. We also have a serious style crush on those bejewelled mules too.
Accessorise all areas
Natalia Kapchuk’s fedora and stripes scream French Riviera, but the embellished glasses, sparkly shoes and sequinned appliqué add a Dubai spin.
Branching out
There’s a lot going on in this one-shouldered, bucolic-printed jumpsuit with a peplum… but yet it feels bright, breezy and oh-so fresh.
Blazing a trail
For formal events, we’re all about the LBD (long black dress in this case) – and we’re going to go sew some blazer-esque buttons on ours right away after spotting this number on Zoya Sakr.
All about the embellishment
We didn’t really realise what a delicate pairing lemon yellow and dove grey made until we saw this updated take on a ’50s silhouette by Leena Kaziz.
Well textured
The 3D-ness of this lightly ruffled frock makes it feel like it could be straight off the runway.
Frilled to bits
Garden parties, brunches, cocktail gatherings… this dress would see us through many a social occasion. We need it in our lives, pronto.
