As the year draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on the good, the bad… and the fashionable.
2016 has been a mixed bag of events but one thing’s for certain – the style stars of the Middle East have given us plenty of wardrobe inspiration to take into 2017.
We’ve long been fans of Amal Clooney’s knack for pulling together demure yet head-turning looks, and she’s kept delivering throughout the last 12 months.
In fact, the esteemed Lebanese-British lawyer and activist – who we’ve also got a huge career crush on – never fails to put a stylish foot wrong, whether it’s on the red carpet or in the courtroom.
So, with no further ado, let’s look at her fashion highlights from the last year…

This sherbet-lemon Atelier Versace gown, complete with a Grecian-inspired twisted shoulder, romantic flowing train and daring thigh-high split, made many a best-dressed list at this year’s Cannes festival. Paired with the sideswept waves and contrasting brick-red lip, we’re calling this as Clooney’s best look of the year.
A navy shift with fine white pinstripes screams chic and sophisticated, while also staying understated and event-appropriate.
Red is most definitely Amal’s colour – and there’s no greater example of that than this artfully tailored number with swooshy sleeves. Bonus marks for the retro cat-eye sunnies.
Seriously, the Beirut-born barrister is our new muse when it comes to vintage-inspired outfits that never feel dated. This lace shift with a peekaboo belt is timeless, but it’s the turban and relaxed blow-out that take this from an A to an A+.
Clooney takes a leaf out of Jackie O’s style manual with an elegant two piece complete with an architecturally-interesting neckline.

Those silky palazzo pants with the Art Deco-influenced print? We love, we want, we need.
Well, when you know something’s your colour, you really should stick to it. We particularly love the strokeable 3Dness of the floral embroidery, and the refreshing choice of a low kitten heel on the red carpet (especially when they’re in a sleek metallic hue).
This embroidered tea dress feels cool and quirky but still totally on-brand.
This sequinned sheath, enveloped in an ethereal gauzy overlay, feels very Elizabeth-Taylor-meets-Audrey-Hepburn (and there’s no greater sartorial compliment than that, surely?).
When we don’t know what to wear to work on a Sunday morning, we’re just going to Google Amal for inspiration (and then snap up all the nautical knee-length dresses that The Dubai Mall has to offer).
