All eyes were supposed to be on the fillies, but ours couldn’t help drifting to Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein’s impeccable fashion choices during her appearance at Royal Ascot.
The well-dressed royal was seen alongside Britain’s own style icon, the Duchess of Cambridge, at the UK’s world-famous horse-racing event, and we think the Sheikha might just have pipped Kate to the post with her vintage-inspired wardrobe.
Princess Haya’s outfits harked back to the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s during her four-day visit, where she and her husband, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, viewed the action from the Royal Box alongside Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Charles, and several other members of Britain’s monarchy.

DAY ONE
Anyone who thinks all-black is a boring choice for a big event, take note, because here’s the princess effortlessly proving otherwise. In a sea of grey suits, HRH added a much-needed dose of glam by pairing her timeless, 1940s-inspired LBD with a whimsical feather-topped number by renowned milliner Philip Treacy for a look that feels both refined and full of fun.
DAY TWO
So chic, so sleek, and something you need the poise of a royal to pull off (we’d have covered that in a Jackson Pollock-style sprawl of ink stains in about 10 seconds flat). The oversize pillbox and bouclé two-piece feels so Jackie O, but the boxy, almost military structure of the jacket adds a modern edge.
DAY THREE
We’re going to call it – we don’t think anyone has pulled off head-to-toe red as well as Princess Haya does here. Proving how tone-on-tone looks aren’t always bland, the royal stands out from the sedate greys and blacks that dominate the Ascot crowds by pairing an Elizabeth Taylor-esque scarlet dress with a matching Philip Treacy hat, peep-toe pumps, and a vibrant slash of lippie. Fiery, dramatic, but still super classy.
DAY FOUR
With that nipped-in waist and swathes of ruching, this baby-pink chiffon reminds us of Liesl’s prancing-around-the-greenhouse frock in The Sound of Music, and we mean that as the highest of compliments. (That musical number made us want to a) fast-forward our preteen years and b) learn to scale a drainpipe). The stark, almost sculptural black rose headpiece contrasts beautifully with the romantic, floaty gown, while the birdcage veil adds an extra hit of retro glamour.
