Could this be the most bling thing the beauty world has ever seen? We think so.
Unveiled at the Beautyworld Middle East 2016 trade show in Dubai – where else? – was the most extravagant make-up kit item we’ve ever laid eyes on, and we’ve seen a lot.
Causing a stir among industry big wigs was a powder made of precious stones and its luxurious bejewelled compact case.
The flash product was brought to the Middle East by Parisian brand Les Diamants Bleus. Perhaps a smart investment move by the brand considering that in 2015, US$6.85 billion was spent on beauty products in the UAE and Saudi.

While the cost of the compact hasn’t been disclosed – you know what they say: ‘ if you have to ask you can’t afford it’ – we can tell you that the Les Diamants Bleus compact is made from 24-carat gold.
Although it isn’t the first brand to do so – Estee Lauder launched a 24-carat gold compact (US$200) as part of Breast Cancer Awareness – the compact is the first to contain precious stone powder. The mineral powder make-up is carefully fashioned by using gemstones: rubies, amethysts, tourmaline, jade and amber. “This makes an ultra-luxurious and superfine textured powder that provides for a soft and luxurious finish on the skin,” said a brand spokesperson.

As ostentatious as the products may sound, the fact is there is a market for such items in the region, especially if recent figures released by analysts Euromonitor International are to go by – in 2015 alone UAE shoppers spent US$1.64 billion on beauty products.
Inspired by this big Beautyworld reveal. Here are three extravagant items from the world of beauty:
