Khalaf Al Habtoor, a senior Dubai-based businessman has branded United States presidential candidate Donald Trump a “loose cannon”.

The billionaire chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, Khalaf Al Habtoor, let rip in an interview with Bloomberg Markets Middle East. During the interview he spoke on the dangers to the Arab world if Trump were to get elected this coming November. A possibility that seems all too real after Ted Cruz stepped down and Trump won the Republican candidacy in the past week.

Khalaf Al Habtoor previously wrote an opinion piece supporting Trump as a presidential candidate, saying that Trump’s candidacy was “a breath of fresh air among usual suspects,” and thought that the “United States needed a businessman to lead more than a politician”.

He has since retracted his statement after Trump’s anti-Muslim comments, telling NBC News: “I’m sorry I ever supported [him]… When he was talking about Muslims, attacking them… I had to admit I made a mistake in my supporting Mr Trump. He is creating a hatred between Muslims and the United States of America”.

Al Habtoor further reiterated his regret in his latest interview with Bloomberg Markets Middle East, saying: “What he’s doing is making a mistake – like making a World War,” and that “I call him a loose cannon, very dangerous to the world, very dangerous to the world”.

Khalaf Al Habtoor and Trump originally had plans to build a hotel and a tower in Dubai together, yet after severing ties with him, Al Habtoor told the Associated Press: “If he comes to my office, I will not let him in. I reject him”.

“I view him as the biggest enemy of Islam. He is a man supporting ISIS. We have a common enemy in the world and that is ISIS. And Trump is now encouraging them, this is what they want to hear,” Al Habtoor told CNN in December.

Many of Trump’s business partners in the region have severed relations with him. However his main partner in Dubai, Damac Properties Dubai Co is continuing to work with him on two of the Trump golf courses and 104 mansions.
