While he may not be a fan of Muslims, wanting to build a “wall” around America to keep them out, Donald Trump shocked us all when he revealed, in an interview with Anderson Cooper at the CNN Tower Hall that he admires the infrastructures in Dubai and Qatar – both Muslim states.

Last year, since calling for the ban of all Muslims travelling to the United States, Donald Trump, the controversial frontrunner for the Republican nomination, has succeeded in shocking us all by suggesting that America should take note of the successes in Dubai and Qatar and stop acting like a “third world” country.

Don’t believe us? Here’s what she said to Anderson Cooper after an audience member asked why he isn’t more like his well spoken children.

After explaining how his kids have “great hearts” and “a lot of drive” he then went on about how his kids want him to make America great again, which very smartly – he is a politician after all – led into his mission statement. “I will make America great again,” he said confidently. “The world isn’t going to take advantage of us anymore at every level whether it is military, trade… The world is taking advantage of the United States and it’s driving us into being a third world nation.”

Then he went on to praise Dubai and Qatar, adding: “I travel all over the world and I land at airports the likes of which you’ve never seen, whether it’s in Qatar or Dubai or places in China, the likes of which you have never seen. And then we come home and land in La Guardia with potholes all over the place … and you look at what we have and where we’ve gone. It’s time to rebuild our country.”

Of course, his praise of the Muslim countries caused uproar across social media with many believing Trump to be a hypocrite, for criticising Muslims and them praising the infrastructure in Muslim-run states.

While his quote from the CNN debate has caused a huge reaction in the region, the reality TV star and businessman actually made the same anti-Muslim speech back in 2015. Stating: “We can turn it around. We can take care of our military, we can take care of our infrastructure. Take a look at our infrastructure. Our roads are crumbling, our airports are third world. You go to Qatar, you go to Dubai, you go to places in China and places in the Middle East and they have airports that are the most beautiful I’ve seen in my life. I was in Qatar and I was given a tour. They were showing me the most incredible airport I’ve ever seen and I said: ‘This is great, congratulations.’ They replied: ‘No, no, no this is temporary, our real airport is over there,’ and he pointed across the runway and they must have had more than 75 cranes… and it was the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen… and then we come back to La Guardia.”

It’s not sure if Trump has a genuine appreciation of Middle East infrastructures or whether he was trying to maintain his ties in the region – let’s not forget he has projects with Damac, and the Trump World Golf Club is still believed to be in the pipeline.

We like to believe it’s the former and that his views on Islam are changing… but with comments like: “If you look at Paris [it’s] no longer the same city it was. They have sections in Paris which are radicalised where they police refuse to go there because they’re petrified. We have places in London and other places that are so radicalised the police are afraid for their own lives. We have to be very smart and very vigilant,” we doubt it.
