Acrophobia sufferers look away now… Dubai has revealed plans for an ambitious 325-metre base-jump tower that’s set to be a be an adrenaline lover’s dream.

Remember when Tom Cruise petrified us all when he scaled Burj Khalifa, and when His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum got us nervous when he took a selfies from the top of the world’s highest building? Well, this is even more extreme.

According to a report by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a proposed 325-metre base-jump tower has been designed to provide a platform for extreme sports.

While the council have not revealed the name of the building developer, the lead architect is 10 Design, who have revealed plans to build a three-tiered tower with an external hexagrid skin. The lower levels of the tower will offer facilities where visitors can interact in various activities. There will also be a training simulator, as well as junior climbing walls. The mid-levels will offer semi-external climbing and abseiling environments with a 140-metre high elevated climbing experience.

The top, and most extreme level, of the tower will offer a a series of ice climbs for the most experienced climbers, as well as wire assisted free fall and Base jump (Base Jumping is either parachuting or wingsuit flying from a fixed structure) points.

“Conceptually, the tower’s functions emulate the ascent to Mount Everest, with multiple ‘base camps,’” said the council, quoting Archello magazine. “The base and lower levels of the tower contain training, simulator, and visitor experiences, including junior climbing walls, wire assisted high diving, and free-fall facilities.”

Dates for construction and completion have yet to be announced but judging from the images this is going to be one truly impressive building.
