We love to see our local brands doing well, and there’s few people we’re championing quite as much as the marvellous Ayah Tabari and her rainbow-infused brand Mochi.
A mere three years into running her main line for adults – an embroidered feast for the eyes full of crop-tops, midi skirts and pom poms aplenty – designer Ayah’s eye for feel-good fashion has taken her towards kidswear for a second time (the new collection launched on February 27).
“The concept behind this collection was to engage the kids, so each piece has either a Velcro flower, star or heart on it so the child can choose which one they wear that day,” she told us.

It’s a super sweet idea, not that we’d expect anything less from the sunshine-filled brand, of course. And speaking of sunshine, Ayah celebrated the launch of the second Mini Mochi collection on Saturday at Reform Social Bar & Grill, The Lakes, Dubai. There was glitter and body-painting by Glitterbox, the most fun balloons in town by Happy Bubble, an avalanche of sweeties from Papabubble and pom-pom hairband making from The Happy Box.
Those attending included some of the mini stars from the fashion shoot – Ayah called in her yummy mummy pals and their kids for a more natural approach to the mini shoot.

“I’ve used the Thailand fabric from my main collection for this Mini Mochi – the last one was Jaipur,” explains Ayah about the mini-me feel about the line. “I feel that this collection is definitely stronger in terms of quality, and also more mature but still fun which is such an important element of my brand.”
Fun definitely seems to be the buzzword here. We’re in.
