OK, ladies, just remember to breathe… but Brad Pitt – one of Hollywood’s most famous heartthrobs – is coming to the UAE!
That’s right, mega-star Brad Pitt is coming to the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi next month (September) to film his highly anticipated big-budget Netflix movie, War Machine.
The film is based on a novel by Michael Hastings – The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan. As you can probably guess from the title, the plot is set in Afghanistan but the movie will be shot in Abu Dhabi, which will stand in for the Afghan desert.
While the film sounds like a serious drama it will actually be a satirical comedy about General Stanley A. McChrystal (played by Pitt), who was sacked from his position as a respected military officer and commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force and U.S. Forces-Afghanistan after he mocked Barack Obama officials in a story, written by Michael Hastings, for the Rolling Stone in 2010.
War Machine is set to change the future of film as it marks Netflix’s first venture into original filmmaking. It is already renowned for its hit TV shows (it made TV series cool again) such as House of Cards, Orange Is The New Black and Arrested Development. With talks in the industry already suggesting an Oscar nod for the yet-to-be-completed movie, a nomination could be Netflix’s big break into the movie world.
Abu Dhabi has become a hotspot for the film industry thanks to its safe desert landscape and modern amenities just a short drive away. Other films made, or being made, in the UAE include Sex And The City 2, Star Trek Beyond (filming in October), Dhishoom and Fast and Furious 7.
It’s not known whether Brad’s wife, Angelina Jolie, will be coming to the UAE along with their adorable brood of six kids, but it is highly likely as Bragelina reportedly own property in the region.
All we can say is, Brad, if you’re reading this and you need extras the whole of team EW are available.
