This weekend is all about relaxation and reflection, so we’ll be trying out a unique iftar, picking up gifts for loved ones and squeezing in a cinema trip. Ramadan Kareem to all our lovely readers!
Thursday
Breaking fast at the Ramadan Garden
Bigger isn’t always better, as our favourite new addition to Dubai’s vast iftar offering proves. There’s no lavish tent at the Ramadan Garden. Instead you’ll find food prepared by Ghaf Kitchen, the “restaurant on wheels” housed in a cute vintage Citroen van, and served up in Alserkal art gallery A4 Space, which has been transformed into an indoor oasis for the Holy Month. After lentil soup, labneh and dates, you can take your pick from crisp rotisserie chicken, roast lamb or posh fish finger sandwiches. It’s worth going for the coleslaw alone.
A4 Space, Alserkal Avenue, daily from 7pm to 10pm throughout Ramadan, Dhs95. ghafkitchen.com
Friday
Catching a movie
We can see what Rosie Huntington-Whiteley sees in Jason Statham; the supermodel’s boyf almost steals the show from Melissa McCarthy in Spy with his turn as a CIA agent with a tendency to exaggerate. McCarthy plays Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst who trades in her desk job for the danger of working in the field. Watch out for some great scenes with her Bridesmaids co-star Rose Byrne, who plays a villainess with a penchant for big heels and even bigger hair. An ill-advised appearance from British comic Miranda Hart aside, this is a great feel-good fun.
Saturday
Gift shopping
It’s a great time of year to show someone you love how much you care, and call us shallow, but we think presents are the best way to do it. In case anybody feels like showing us a little love, we’re obsessed with this cute gold ring set from Vanina – especially as we’re dreaming of disappearing on holiday.
