We’re closing March with a super glam weekend in Dubai. Two annual events that attract international attention are set to fall on the same day – the coveted Dubai World Cup, and the altruistic Earth Hour. Naturally, we’ll be taking part in both, but there’s still one more day and two more evenings to fill, so let’s get started…

Preening, beautifying and getting race ready

Louboutin Manicure

An event as huge as the Dubai World Cup sees outfit shopping begin weeks in advance. As for our beauty regime, we start preparations as soon as the curtain closes on our working week.  For the pinnacle of catwalk claws try the Louboutin manicure. Our favourite is the Fade to Rouge – red ombré tips with a pale pink base. Get the look:

•Apply Loubi Primer

•Apply two coats of Tutulle

•Pour a small amount of Rouge Louboutin onto a plate

•Using a small paintbrush, carefully paint the tips of the nails

•Keep layering Rouge Louboutin until the desired ombre effect is created

•Finish with Loubi Gloss

Getting a dose of culture

Louvre Abu Dhabi

Historic meets contemporary with Twitter’s #MuseumWeek2015. Each day museums tweet using a different hashtag to invite an international audience into their world, while users are encouraged to get involved too. Ahead of it’s hotly anticipated opening later this year, Louvre Abu Dhabi has been involved in the tweet-athon. So far we’ve had a sneak peak of what’s to come. To get involved yourself, look for inspiration in the world around you – whether art, science or history – and tweet your picture with #inspirationMW. For more information visit here.

Enjoying the great outdoors

Revel in all things British – with the added bonus of Dubai weather, of course. Springfest at Reform Social & Grill brings 40 exclusive hops with a huge range of flavours, as well as artisan foods. On Friday and Saturday, the orchard area will be packed with people enjoying views over the lake and a family friendly atmosphere. Myles Galloway from Virgin Radio Dubai will host the event, which includes a packed programme of live entertainment. For reservations call (04) 4542638, or visit here.

Attending a fabulous pre-party

Societe

Dubai knows how to throw parties… and pre-parties, and after-parties and any other sort of parties you can think of. Societe Jumeirah is flying the flag high, with a races themed night in collaboration with Moet et Chandon. To celebrate the Dubai World Cup the following day, there will be no cover charge to enter the club on Friday night – the only prerequisite is that you wear a hat. The venue will be transformed into a giant ball pit of ‘Moet Madness’ with lots of prizes up for grabs. Hurrah and three cheers! For more information, visit here.

Doing our bit to save the planet

Earth Hour

Climate change matters to everyone, even those of us in cosmopolitan countries. The UAE is the third biggest consumer of water per capita in the world, making environmental awareness more important than ever. This Saturday the Emirates Wildlife Society is encouraging us to observe this hour during 8.30-9.30pm where, along with the rest of the world, we can bring awareness to climate change. Use the hashtag #YourPowerUAE, and visit the website for more ways of getting involved.

Events around Dubai include The Ritz-Carlton DIFC’s Stories by Candlelight. Hosted by the rooftop pool, it’s a great way to get little ones interested in the environment. Between 8.30 and 9.30pm, staff from the hotel will read popular short stories with the gorgeous backdrop of Dubai in the background. For more information, visit here.

The main event

Dubai Races

One of the most fashionable and fabulous events of the year is back. Of course we’re talking about the Dubai World Cup, with all its mad hatted glory. Aside from horse racing aplenty, the grand event is awash with food stands, bubbly and some of the most marvelous outfits of the social calendar. For a rundown on what EW will be wearing for the event, click here. Apron Views tickets give you the chance to watch the post-race concert with none other than Kyle Minogue. One for the week…

The Act Interior – 1

Keep the weekend rolling with an evening of extraordinary entertainment at The Act. This Sunday, as well as the usual supper shows with fantastic performers, acrobats and aerial stars, there will be a special set from internationally acclaimed DJ Friction. His blend of disco, funk, soul and house will have you dancing into the small hours. Just ensure you manage to get into work on Monday morning! For more information, visit here.
