Bad gal Rihanna has made history. The young beauty is the new face for Dior, making her the first black spokesperson for the brand. As part of the contract, the 27-year-old singer will star in the fourth installment of Dior’s Secret Garden video series with both the film and print campaign shot by renowned photographer Steven Klein in Versailles.
As well as being the first black spokesperson, Rihanna is also the first non-model to star in the brand’s film series campaign, which previously featured models Daria Strokous, Fei Fei Sun and Katlin Aas, shot by Inez and Vinoodh at the Château de Versailles. In the films the models are seen wearing the latest collections while strutting through the famous gardens. That said Rihanna isn’t the first A-lister to represent the brand – Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, Marion Cotillard and Natalie Portman are all face’s for Dior.
The new, and history-making, appointment is just another high for the singer who seems to be having her best year to date. Not only is she rumoured to be dating Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio, she has also just launched her new album Home, has performed with Beatles legend Paul McCartney and has various film projects up her sleeve.
Rihanna will also be the subject of an upcoming documentary directed by Peter Berg. According to sources the film will be “much more a character study than a music film.” The movie is being described as an “unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life and how she’s ascended to become a global icon.” A certified fashion darling, the Barbados-born beauty, who has long been a front row favourite for Dior, has already graced a campaign for Balmain and is also the creative director at Puma. The FourFiveSeconds singer will make her first appearance for the French fashion house’s Secret Garden campaign in spring 2015.
