While the stylish women of Dubai aren’t exactly starved of options when it comes to looking fabulous, it has to be said that the options can occasionally get a little high-fashion-statement-outfit-monontonous. Enter The Kooples and it’s first store in the region, opening this week in Dubai Mall.
In case you’re unaware of the brand, The Kooples is a French ready-to-wear label that “brings chic back the street with, dressing couples in a fresh, vintage look, teaming up with London tailors Norton& Sons.”
The brains behind The Kooples are the Elicha siblings, Raphaël, Laurent and Alexandre, who are also behind Comptoir des Cotonniers. The brothers took some inspiration for The Kooples concept from legendary couple Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg who, whether they intended or not, oozed style. Taking the idea of fashion as a pair, the brothers came up with genius advertising campaigns, starring trendy couples, all with their own unique sense of style. In the adverts the achingly cool couples and real-life models reveal how long they have been together. It’s simple, it’s cute and it’s incredibly effective. With the adverts now synonymous with the brand.
The brand is aimed at young, affluent and connected men and women. It’s noted for its “rock trend and style dandy”. To celebrate it’s arrival to the UAE, a private dinner party was held for the region’s top sartorial influencers – Emirates Woman attended, naturally.
In true style for the brand the scene was stylishly edgy. Held at the The Mine Gallery – a warehouse space that itslef embodies the urban chic theme – huge canvases with images of The Kooples’ gorgeous couples covered the walls while mannequins decked in the latest autumn/winter collection gave guests a sneak peek of what to expect in store. Live entertainment came in the form of DJ David Craig and Pauline Moreno aka MissPM (another goodlooking couple), a three-course meal followed and then a live acoustic set saw out the evening in classically quirky The Kooples style. It’s safe to say that the scene in Dubai is about to get a little more edgy.
