While Kendall Jenner’s dream of becoming a high-fashion model is now a reality, it seems that not everyone thinks she has earned her place on the coveted runway. In fact, Australian tabloid Famous has ‘fat-shamed’ her on their recent cover, while another tabloid reports that she was bullied by fellow models at New York Fashion Week.
The Famous cover ran two photographs of Kendall Jenner during the Tommy Hilfiger show alongside the headline Model Bosses Blast Kendall: ‘You’re Too Fat For Runway’. The cover and the inset photo, which shows uneven skin on back of her thigh, has caused much controversy for being ‘nasty’ and ‘fat-shaming’ and many have alleged the magazine photoshopped the image to include cellulite or ‘cottage cheese’ as Kendall’s model friend Ireland Baldwin described it during a Twitter rant.
Baldwin, the daughter of Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin, defended Kendall saying: “I just saw a magazine cover of Kendall Jenner where is (as usual) looks thin and beautiful and FAMOUS decided to photoshop some cottage cheese on the back of her thigh. uh. let me tell you. that girl has flawless legs. I’ve seen them in person plenty of times. [sic]”
While many websites have weighed-in with opinions and agree the image was “very poorly” photoshopped the original photograph available from Reuters picture agency proves otherwise. While Famous may be clear of the manipulation allegations, many feel that stigmasing someone for possibly having cellulite is unacceptable, as Perez Hilton wrote: “Whether or not Kendall actually has cellulite, it doesn’t matter! Cellulite is never something to be shamed for!”
This controversy comes after last week’s allegation by InTouch that Kendall has been on the receiving end of malicious behaviour by jealous models at New York Fashion Week A source claims: “Some [of the models] put out their cigarettes in Kendall’s drink! They thought she was getting special treatment and just weren’t OK with it.”
In several interviews Kendall has acknowledged that while her pre-modelling fame in the television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians helped her get her modelling career off the ground, it has also made it more difficult in high-fashion arena. However, the ambitious 18-year-old is determined to achieve her goals and prove the naysayers wrong as she told LOVE Magazine: “Proving myself in the high-fashion world is really important to me and something that I’m willing to work hard at accomplishing.”
