From Arabian scents to hair saviours and fluttering lashes, Beauty Editor Samantha Hamilton-Rushforth answers your questions…
Q.) I’m leaving Dubai for good next week to start a new job in Singapore, and I’d love to take some authentic Arabian beauty bits with me, what should I stock up on?
A.) There’s lots of local beauty buys you can seek out including Arabic kohl, make-up from regional brands like Micaroon and Mikjajy as well as local perfumes. Clinique have a new scent out called Beyond Rose which is actually inspired by Arabic beauty traditions with notes of rose oil, Osmanthus and Amber. One spritz and you’ll feel right at home again!
Q.) My hair is looking a little lifeless recently, is it true that the water in Dubai can contribute to dullness?
A.) The water here is particularly harsh especially for blonde hair so I would recommend investing in a filter. In the mean time, local hair guru Maria Dowling has created a hair and scalp clay to combat such effects. Made up of clay and pure oils, the all-natural masque rebalances the hair with a heady mix of fragrant oils including peppermint, jojoba and lemongrass. Soothing and cleansing it will have your locks back to their best in a flash.
Q.) I’m slowly adding organic alternatives to my beauty routine and mascara is the last item on my list, is there one you would recommend?
A.) There are a few good organic mascaras on the market, holistic brands like The Organic Pharmacy and Neal’s Yard Remedies have 100 per cent natural alternatives but if you’re looking for a product that contains natural ingredients and doesn’t compromise on length and thickness then I think the new Rimmel Wonder’full Mascara with argan oil might be for you. It conditions and hydrates the lashes leaving them smooth and clump free. What more could you want?
