From fashion shows to new launches, gruelling workouts to the passing of yet another comedic legend, last week was certainly eclectic.
Working at Emirates Woman often means myself and the team get the privilege to preview events and fashion collections before everyone else, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Last week I had the pleasure to check out the COS A/14 collection before it hits the shelves later this month. From citrus yellow jumpers to floor-sweeping coats and knitted shirts, I was left dreaming of wintry weather so I could don the pieces. I guess I will have to settle with whacking up the office air conditioning – apologises in advance to those in EW HQ, but sometimes you have to suffer for fashion.
From a feast for my eyes to a feast for my taste buds at the preview of Toko’s For The Sake Of Sushi night, no less – the Japanese answer to the traditional cheese & vino concept. For just Dhs225, every Thursday between 7-9pm, you can enjoy sake and delicious sushi in incredibly chic surroundings, with live saxophone entrainment – it doesn’t get more classy than this for a night out with the ladies.
Those who know me well are aware that I am somewhat of a caffeine fiend. Believe it or not but I once used to drink 12 cups of coffee a day! Over the years I have weaned it down to three or four. So, with this I’m mind you can only imagine my excitement when the people from Nespresso paid EW HQ a visit bearing the new Cubania coffee, and lots of it. For anyone who loves strong coffee, this is the blend for you.
Another new product on the market is the La Prarie’s Cellular Serum Platinum Rare. Boasting five benefits: anti-ageing, tightening, brightening, moisturising and minimising of discolouration, I decided to put the product to the test with the complimentary La Prarie facial available to customers at Harvey Nichols, The Dubai Mall. In the 45-minute facial the therapist uses all the products from the latest collection so you can trial them before buying. My skin was glowing so much I don’t need to apply foundation for when catching up with visiting friends after the treatment.
Obviously, while in Harvey Nichols it’s rude not to peruse the rest of the store… Bags, of every shape and size and colour are on my radar at the moment.
I was sad to learn that Joan Rivers, the lady whose self-deprecating humour taught us that if you make fun of yourself before anyone else then they have nothing to say, passed away. A true pioneering star, Joan enjoyed great success in the competitive showbiz industry for over 50 years. RIP Joan.
For those who haven’t heard me talking about it non-stop, I have joined a Motivate team for the Desert Warrior Challenge – a 10k fitness course with 24 gruelling obstacles. Still struggling to ditch the holiday wait from my summer vacation over three months ago I headed to The Warehouse Gym with fellow EW staffer and Desert Warrior participant Kerri Bennett for their Desert Warrior Bootcamp. After one hour of sweating, nearly crying and laughing (more hysterical than humorous) we certainly got a taste of what’s to come… and it isn’t sweet. #EWGetsFit
