fashion q&a

This week Junior Fashion Editor Alexandra Venison tackles your questions on how to stay stylish in the malls, staying modest and fighting the never ending AC.

Q.) My friends keep mocking my love for Harem pants. Don’t get me wrong, I know they aren’t the most fashionable items in my wardrobe, but after a long day at work I just want to be comfortable. Are there other comfy but chic options?

A.) Harem pants have their time and place, and that’s usually on a beach in Thailand. Why not opt for something similar but not so baggy? Both the high street and designers have a range of trousers in soft material and loose fits. Team with a crisp white shirt to contrast the looseness of the trousers and you’ll be getting thumbs up in no time.

Q.) The malls in Dubai are so huge I always struggle to get from one end to the next without a blister or two. Is it acceptable to wear trainers and can I still look stylish when doing so?

A.) Luckily for you sports luxe is a trend that’s looking like it’s here to stay. As long as you keep your trainers in good condition (no more grubby converse, please) and opt for a bright colour, even with a print, and you will have nailed the trend.

Q.) I love going to the cinema but the only problem is every time I go, I get so cold from the AC that I can’t watch the movie without my teeth chattering. What’s the best option for staying warm without carrying around a woolly jumper?

A.) A bomber jacket is your perfect cinema companion. Not only is it bang on trend at the moment, but it will also keep you warm throughout the movie. Opt for a bomber made of jersey material as the main component and then add some style with contrasting sleeves or embellishment. Bombers are also great when walking through the malls to throw over your shoulders so you have both hands spare to carry your popcorn.
