Angry fans have taken to Twitter to demand refunds after Kanye West stopped his set at the Wireless Festival in Finsbury Park, London, to embark on a 20-minute tirade about the fashion industry.
“I’m not going to mention any names but… Nike, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. Don’t discriminate against me cos I’m a black man making music,” Kanye belted out to the audience. Unfortunately for the rapper, who seemed to have an oversized sense of self-importance, spectators remained unsympathetic.
One Twitter user said: “There is a time and place to get on your soap box @kanyewest and #wireless is not the place,” while another one stated succinctly, “’Kanye West getting boos at wireless, for ranting on stage instead of rapping.’
Fed up with his antics, jeering fans then started chanting, “We want Drake,” as the musician tried to explain that he was misunderstood due to being both “shy” and “arrogant.”
The musician is not exactly known for his modesty, likening himself to artistic masterminds such as Michelangelo and Picasso and once proclaiming: “I’m the No. 1 living and breathing rock star.” His latest album caused controversy with its title Yeezus, with Kanye earning the nickname Yeezie.
It’s not the first time the newest addition to the Kardashian family has had a run-in with the fashion industry. Kanye’s ventures as a designer have been less than successful and he was left red-faced at last year’s Paris Fashion Week after being insulted by an undisclosed designer.
Kanye was the headline act for both Friday and Saturday night after Drake cancelled his appearance at Wireless, citing illness. The Hold On We’re Going Home hitmaker released a statement saying: ‘To my beloved fans, it truly breaks my heart that I won’t be able to perform as planned at Wireless and Roskilde this weekend.”
While Kanye complained that “celebrities need to be allowed an off day” it seems he has been given more than his fair share of days of chances… it’s too late now Mr West.
