SUAREZ DENIES BITING ITALY PLAYER
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it would have been hard to avoid the news that Uruguay striker Luis Suarez bit Italy’s Giorio Chiellini during a game. FIFA’s disciplinary panel decided to ban him from nine international games and give him a four-month suspension.
In a remarkable excuse for his behavior, this morning’s reports suggest he is appealing the decision, as it was an accident. “I hit my face against the player leaving a small bruise on my cheek and a strong pain in my teeth,” Suarez wrote in a letter to FIFA.
GLASTONBURY – THE SHOW MUST GO ON
Glastonbury literally went down a storm at the weekend, with famous faces braving the mud and the rain including Bradley Cooper, Lily Allen, Cressida Bonas, Daisy Lowe, Stella McCartney and Alexa Chung.
SERENA WILLIAMS KNOCKED OUT OF WIMBLEDON
She was going for her sixth title and, as the top seed, it looked achievable, but Serena Williams was knocked out of the tournament this weekend.
Her defeat against Alize Cornet marks her earliest Wimbledon exit in almost ten years. It also continues a bad run for the world’s number one, who has yet to reach a quarterfinal this season.
SHIA LABEOUF ARRESTED IN NEW YORK
Transformers star Shia LaBeouf was arrested on Thursday evening during a performance of Cabaret in Studio 54 theatre in New York.
Audience members say that he was disruptive during the first act of the musical, and became aggravated when security asked him to leave. An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that the 28-year-old was arrested, saying: “He was being rather difficult and combative, verbally… to the point where security guards asked him to please leave the premises and he refused. Police were called and he was detained and arrested.”
Shia was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Tweets suggest that he was crying when led away by officers, sparking further concern about his erratic behaviour over the last year.
