Kanye West must be over the moon. He is forever singing the praises of the Kardashian family, referring to them as “an industry” and warriors” as they set out to dominate every inch of the entertainment industry. So, he must be a very as his new ‘sisters’ Kendall and Kylie Jenner have gone one step further, delving into the world of literature, releasing a book, which they have ghost written, Rebels: The Story Of Lex And Livia.
The two home-schooled teens, who are 18 and 16 respectively, have already enjoyed relatively successful careers as models and fashion designers, but decided that launching a potentially best-selling summer read should be their next venture.
Unlike Kardashian Konfidential written by their older sisters Khloe, Kim and Kourtney, Rebels: The Story Of Lex And Livia is not a memoir full of family stories. Instead it is a sci-fi novel with a gripping tale that follows two girls, in a futuristic, dystopian city, who reluctantly team up on a quest.
Or, as explained on amazon.com, where is it now available to buy: “In a world of the far future, the great city of Indra has two faces: a beautiful paradise floating high in the sky, and a nightmare world of poverty carved into tunnels beneath the surface of the earth. Kendall and Kylie Jenner, the youngest sisters in the Kardashian dynasty, have written a gripping tale of air, fire, and a bond of blood.”
While Kendall and Kylie have been promoting the release on the sci-fi book across the USA, there has been no sign of novelist Maya Sloan who helped write it. Though Kendall did point out in an interview: “We obviously can’t write a sci-fi novel on our own.”
Talking about the new project, Kylie said: “It took us two years, so we’ve obviously been working on it for a while. It was awesome just seeing it grow.”
While the book is fiction there does seem to be some parallels with Kendall and Kylie’s lives. In the book citizens are defined by their social strata, with Livia and Lex trying to break free from the post-apocalyptic society that confines them. Also in the book the characters feel pressured by the Governess to have surgical enhancements. Could this be a reference to their momager Kris Jenner?
The debut book ends with a cliffhanger, indicating a sequel in on the horizon.
While we await word from the critics, we can’t help but be skeptical about the quality of the book. After all, Kendall did once admit “I’m the worst reader” and it was Kylie who asked to be home-schooled after her social engagements put her woefully behind in school.
