OK, we’re struggling to keep up now but there has been another high street/designer collaboration. This time it’s the queen of prints, Mary Katrantzou, and trendy sports brand Adidas who are joining sartorial forces.

The American sportswear brand, which already has a popular and profitable collaboration with Stella McCartney, has announced the new partnership will be a long-term union with the collection comprising of clothing and footwear.

“I’m really excited to be working with Adidas on a line of apparel and footwear,” said Katrantzou who also follows in the footsteps of fellow Adidas collaborators Pharrell Williams and Raf Simons. “I grew up, like so many other kids around the world, wearing Adidas sneakers and I’m really excited about bringing my vision to such a global brand. They have a fantastic heritage and their ability to innovate in sportswear makes them the perfect partner for us to work with in this market.”

It’s a very smart move for Adidas with Katrantzou reigning supreme in the fashion industry ever since she dazzled us with her sophisticated prints in 2009 during her London Fashion Week debut.

The UK designer’s creations are so iconic that her dresses are instantly recognisable for their unique patterns and structure. In fact, so inimitable are her pieces that she has a legion of celebrity fans including style icon Diane Kruger, Solange Knowles, Keira Knightley, Lupita Nyong’o, Alexa Chung and Rihanna.

Dirk Schoenberger, global creative director of Adidas’s sport style division said of the union: “The collaboration between Adidas and Mary Katrantzou merges the
exceptional talent of one of the most interesting designers of today and a
company that embraces many different cultures from sports, pop, music and
fashion. I admire Mary’s extraordinary sense of printing techniques, colours and silhouette that will bring another amazing new aesthetic to the adidas originals women’s collection.” With the collection set to launch in November we are literally counting down the days.
