This Emirati Women’s Day, Emirates Woman convened a powerful dialogue across generations, bringing together three pioneering women to explore a single, unifying question: how does a dream become a reality?
The conversation features Noora Shawqi, co-founder of Noora Shawqi Jewellery; Fatma Al Taher, co-founder of NAFS; and multidisciplinary artist Wafa Al Falahi. Each traces the thread from their childhood inspirations to the women they are today. In a candid exchange, they reveal a seldom-seen personal dimension, reflecting on formative memories, early role models, and the advice they would offer both the younger generation and their own younger selves.

Their stories arrive under the banner of this year’s official theme: “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years.” The occasion holds special significance, marking the 50th anniversary of the General Women’s Union, founded in 1975. For five decades, the Union has stood as a cornerstone institution, championing the rights and development of Emirati women.
The theme pays tribute to a half-century of collective achievement and underscores the essential role of community partnership in the nation’s progress. In a statement this year, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, affirmed that Emirati women are not only the heartbeat of society but the very foundation of the UAE’s sustainable development. She emphasized that women’s empowerment is a critical driver for building a productive, cohesive, and globally competitive society, while also remaining the cornerstone of family life and social cohesion.
