First introduced in 2015 as a single pair of yoga tights, Align quickly became a wardrobe staple around the world. Now celebrating it’s 10-year anniversary, we discuss why we all need more mindful movement with lululemon ambassador, Maitha Al Matrooshi.

How would you describe your personal philosophy when it comes to movement and coaching?
Movement is how I’ve come to know myself, not just physically, but in how I respond to challenge, rhythm, resistance, and stillness. My coaching philosophy is grounded in purpose: every session is an opportunity to unlock a stronger, more aware version of yourself. Whether it’s through cycling, Lagree, or rhythmic HIIT, I coach with the intention to elevate; mentally, emotionally, and physically. Over the years, coaching across different countries and training alongside elite global coaches has reminded me that the best movement is the one that transforms you from the inside out.
How do you see your role as a lululemon ambassador contributing to positive change in the local fitness scene?
Being a lululemon ambassador is an honour, but more importantly, it’s a responsibility. It allows me to amplify values that go beyond fitness; values like authenticity, inclusivity, and conscious leadership. I see my role as a bridge between global insights and local impact. With every class, conversation, and collaboration, I aim to elevate the standards of coaching while nurturing a culture and community that celebrates both movement and mindfulness.
What’s one moment in your coaching career that completely transformed your perspective on fitness or community?
It was the first time I saw a room full of strangers move in complete rhythm; not just to the beat, but with shared intention. That moment shifted everything for me. I realised fitness wasn’t about individual goals, but about collective energy. That sense of community has only deepened through my journey. Community is the heartbeat of sustainable wellness.
You’ve built a powerful community around movement. How do you nurture that sense of belonging in your classes?
It starts with presence. I make it a point to truly see everyone in the room; to learn their names, their stories, their “why.” I infuse my classes with rhythm, emotion, and purpose, allowing people to drop their guard and meet themselves where they are. It’s about creating a space where people don’t just move, they feel safe to grow. That’s where belonging begins.
How do you stay motivated when the heat drains your energy?
I reconnect to my why. When it’s 45 degrees outside and I’m drenched before the warm-up even starts, I remind myself that movement isn’t a task, it’s a privilege. I lean into hydration, breathwork, and modifying intensity when needed. But most importantly, I do go for lighter weight lululemon leggings, shorts and tops as they’re breathable and can make the exercise a lot more comfortable. Honestly, being part of a community that shows up regardless of the heat, that’s a motivation unlike any other.
How do you balance performance and mindfulness?
To me, performance is most powerful when it’s precise and present. In Lagree, for example, slow and controlled movement demands both, strength and control must co-exist. I train and coach in a way that doesn’t just chase results but refines how we get there. It’s not about doing more, it’s about doing it with better form, better focus, and better intent.
What are your best fitness tips for travelling during summer?
Keep it simple, stay consistent, and be creative. I prioritise bodyweight workouts that don’t need a gym. Even 20 minutes can make a difference. I also love exploring movement in new environments, whether it’s a beach run, a rooftop flow, or a local class. Training internationally has taught me that fitness doesn’t pause when you travel, it adapts.
lululemon emphasises mindfulness as much as movement. How do you integrate mindfulness into your training or daily life?
I lead with awareness; whether I’m coaching, training, or resting. That means being honest with what my body needs, being present with my clients, and setting boundaries around recovery. I don’t compartmentalise life and movement, they flow together. And that’s where the real impact is felt.
This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat?
Anywhere by the water. Give me a sunrise swim, an early morning coastal walk, or even a shaded trail and I’ll find my reset. Summer is also a time I use to retreat inward, reset intentions, and reconnect with how I want to show up for myself and those I lead.
