The UAE is fast becoming an attractive destination for major international acts as well as up and coming talent. Yesterday’s major entertainment announcement that Avicii, the young Swedish superstar of dance music, will be waking up UAE fans live on April 4 is the perfect example of the ever-growing music and entertainment scene.
This is not Avicii’s first trip to the UAE. He first performed at Atlantis The Palm back in October 2012. At the time he’d already started making major waves in the music industry – in 2011 he released the mega hit Levels, featuring a 1962 sample from Something’s Got A Hold Of Me by Etta James and collaborated with David Guetta on the track Sunshine. This fresh-faced 23 year old was a rising star on the verge of super-stardom.
Since his last visit, Avicii (known as Tim Bergling to his mother), has been nominated for two Grammy awards – Levels was nominated for a 2013 Grammy for Best Dance Recording and the following year he was nominated for the prestigious Song Of The Year for Wake Me Up co-written and featuring the soulful Aloe Blacc. Although Avicii didn’t win either Grammy, he has several other high profile accolades to his name including holding the number three spot two years running in 2012 and 2013 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs rankings, a 2013 MTV EMA award for Best Electronic and an American Music Award for Favourite EDM Artist.
With 1.25 million Twitter followers and 11.5 million Facebook likes, Avicii has fast become a household name without having to resort to any attention searching media antics or cultivating a ‘bad boy’ persona – take note Justin Bieber.
So don’t miss out on seeing Avicii headlining at Live at Atlantis this April. With his newly released album True and a worldwide tour in progress, he is sure to deliver a spectacularly memorable and highly energetic performance. Support DJs will be announced soon.
