With Chinese New Year just round the corner, the award-winning Long Yin restaurant is the place to visit. Find out why.

DÉCOR

A smiling Buddha statue at the entrance greets you as you walk into the newly renovated Long Yin. Delve in further and you will be met by the armoured general, who holds place of pride with the statues of the three wise men – Fu, Lu and Shou symbolising wealth, prosperity and longevity, all of which represent the attributes of good life according to Chinese tradition.

AMBIENCE

This is one very sleek venue. Mood lighting, trendy grey slate accents, which complement the blue, green and yellow interiors creating a cosy and relaxed atmosphere. During the weekends this is a bustling place, with tables hard to book. Go midweek for a less thriving crowd and even more service.

FOOD

Choosing from the extensive menu is no easy feat, but luckily Chef George, along with the very helpful staff, is on hand to suggest dishes.

We began with the seafood soup with asparagus, which was delicately smooth, yummy and not overpoweringly flavoured at all (we had expected it to be).

Long Yin is renowned for its dumplings, so it was only rude not to sample them. We tried the seafood dumpling, prawn wasabi, Sio mai chicken and prawns, and the kingfish dumpling. An explosion of flavours, it’s no surprise they are famous for this speciality. We particularly loved the prawn wasabi and Sio mai dumplings.

When it came to the main course, the delicious aroma hit us before the food appeared and our palates were ready to go on the gastronomic journey the scent promised. The chicken crispy noodles teamed with sautéed prawns in hot chill bean sauce were to die for.  The attack on the senses continued with the XO seafood fried rice, hamour with soy sauce and Vietnamese-style wok-fried tenderloin beef cubes, which was sweet and sticky.

Be sure to leave room for dessert, in particular the divine banana rolls with chocolate filling and served alongside vanilla ice cream.

BEST FOR

A great place to eat out with friends.
