Remember 2006? *NSYNC was on a “hiatus” (wink wink), skinny jeans were just getting their start, and everyone you knew was quoting, “That’s all?” in their best Miranda Priestly impression. Yes, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ took the pop culture world by storm, making us all acutely aware that cerulean is definitely not the devil.
The film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, starred Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, a fresh-faced journalism grad with big dreams. She lands a seemingly impossible job as assistant to the terrifyingly chic editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Miranda’s icy demeanor and sky-high demands are legendary. Andy, clueless about the fashion world but determined to succeed, struggles to navigate the industry’s ruthless demands. From impossible errands to crazy deadlines, Andy battles to keep up while clinging to her dream of becoming a journalist. Along the way, she gets a fashion makeover, clashes with her boyfriend and questions how much she’s willing to sacrifice for her career.
We devoured Andy’s struggles to navigate the fashion world’s ruthless demands, all while sporting clothes that looked straight out of goodwill – a hilarious juxtaposition to the premise of the first half of the film.
Is ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ sequel really happening?
Fast forward to 2024, and whispers of a sequel are swirling faster than a Fendi scarf caught in a hurricane. Apparently, discussions are underway to reunite the original cast and crew, including screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. The storyline, according to Deadline, would pick up with Miranda facing the changing tides of the publishing industry, while Andy’s former nemesis, Emily Blunt’s character Emily Charlton, has become a high-powered fashion executive.
Is Anne Hathaway coming back?
While details are scarce, there’s one snag: Hathaway herself has reservations. “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen,” she told E! News. She cherishes the film’s legacy, emphasizing the teamwork and love that went into making it.
Will we ever see Andy Sachs rocking iconic Chanel boots? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the legacy of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and its quotable lines (“You either get on with it or you get out, sweetie”) is timeless.
