According to loyalty management company Aimia, who recently analysed customer spending habits in the region, e-commerce sales are set to soar as consumers switch on to online deals. The report found that the Middle Eastern shoppers are the most tech-savvy in the world with the majority of people using both a laptop or a smartphone, and almost half (46 per cent) owning a tablet.
This digital switch has already been recognised by many of the malls in the region, who now offer free Wi-Fi, and the research showed that savvy shoppers are increasingly turning to their smartphone to research product reviews and gauge price comparisons. It is predicted that this dependency on technology will result in a boom in internet shopping sales with the market set to grow by US$2.2billion over the next two years – double what is spent online today.
