Even after three full days of fashion shows, fashion talks, fashion accessories and fashionistas you still couldn’t keep us away from the fourth and finale day of Fashion Forward Season Two, which was as lively and spectacular as we expected.
Saudi designer Aziz Humaid kicked off the day’s catwalk presentations with a truly magical monochrome collection. Strong geometric shapes with a feminine edge, this was power dressing at its best.
Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea are the design duo behind Taller Marmo. While relatively new to the Middle East market they proved they have the ability to push the limits of simplicity. With a focus on A-line skirts, bell sleeves and a carefully crafted colour palette they showcased an elegant ready-to-wear collection that offered a harmonious blend of West and East.
Amira Haroon’s show was a lesson on how to work with lace. Every garment used the delicate material in a different creative way, providing a sense of fine craftsmanship and luxury. Combined with its Gatsby-esque themes, the collection was both bold and classic.
Omani sisters Lubna and Nadia Zakwani of Endemage kept their collection focused and simple. It was all about the details – fabric textures, feminine lines and curves and decorative embellishments. One of the most exciting elements of this collection was the laser cut Middle Eastern patterns – a perfect example of how regional designers are creating contemporary garments inspired by the Middle East’s rich heritage.
Based on the fashion army trying to get into the Amato show, it was clear Furne One is still one of the brightest stars of Fashion Forward. As ever, the attention to detail in each garment was awe-inspiring. Inspired by traditional Japanese costume, the collection was theatrical, futuristic yet traditional – essentially, truly Furne.
Closing the event was Zayan. Dubai’s design sweetheart Zayan Ghandour’s catwalk was filled with happiness with a playful collection that was feminine, fun and flirty. Neutral tones were given a rebellious fluorescent twist while classic cuts were modernised with signature motifs from swallows to lips.
And that’s a wrap for Fashion Forward Season Two. Expect more fashion extravaganzas next April.
