Ramadan is just around the corner, which also means Eid Al Fitr is fast approaching.

With so many different dates and timings set to alter during the Holy Month, as well as a few guidelines still in place due to the pandemic, there’s a lot of details you need to be across.

So, here’s everything you need to know about Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr in the UAE for 2022.

Ramadan dates

The first day of Ramadan is expected to fall on April 2, 2022, as predicted by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society. This year, Ramadan is expected to last for 30 days.

Eid Al Fitr dates

With Ramadan expected to last 30 days this year, it’s likely Eid Al Fitr will then begin on May 2, 2022, meaning UAE residents could be enjoying around a five-day break.

However, despite predictions, Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr dates are yet to be confirmed by UAE authorities.

Ramadan working hours

Throughout the Holy Month, those in the UAE working in the public sector will be able to work from 9am to 2pm from Monday to Thursday and on Fridays from 9am to 12pm.

As for private sector employees, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed they will be able to reduce their work days by two hours for the Holy Month.

Ramadan guidelines

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) confirmed tents would be permitted during Holy Month after being barred for the last two years due to COVID-19. In a statement, the NCEMA confirmed that in line with the “sustainable recovery and the return of a new normal life”, Ramadan tents will be able to return this year.

However, ensuring the health and safety of the public, a number of guidelines have been put in place as precautionary measures which are as follows:

  • In order for tents to be set up, approval must be granted by Emirates Red Crescent.
  • A green pass on the Al Hosn app is required to enter tents.
  • It will be up to individual emirates’ authorities to determine capacity in tents.
  • Social distancing of one metre is required and masks need to be worn.
  • Disposable plates, cups, cutlery and table covers must be used and masks and disinfectant items must be provided.
  • Open-air tents need to be used.
  • Tents are permitted to open two hours prior to iftar.
