If you’re a resident of the UAE, your Emirates ID is a common identity method required for all those who are living in the country.

But, things are about to change a little, with a new and improved version of the ID card that’s recently launched.

As per an announcement made by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, a new generation of Emirates ID has been announced with high-tech features that are beyond the norm.

In an article published by WAM, Major-General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Acting Director-General of the ICA said, “The issuance of the new generation Emirates ID is part of achieving the UAE government’s vision to develop the population data using the advanced technology based on best practices and international standards.”

In order to avoid any cases of forgery with additional high-tech security, the new Emirates IDs will include enhanced protection of invisible data which can be ready through the E-link system on the ICA.

As part of the transition to the upgraded generation of identity cards and passports the new and improved”version of the Emirates ID card has been launched, with the new card having a longer service life of more than 10 years with an additional field like professional data, issuing authority and population group.

The Major-General also mentioned that there will be no charges in the list of approved fees for the application process and issuance of ID cards, as it continues to be a legal requirement of all UAE citizens and residents.

With the country continually making strides in terms of security protection to withstand the perils of identity fraud and strengthen confidence in travel documents for international travellers, this is yet another step in the country’s advancement.
