Many designer goods are so highly sought after that a counterfeit industry has emerged, and it’s made its way to Amazon.
Now two influencers have been accused of promoting such fake luxury goods on the e-commerce platform.
From falsely branded products made to resemble luxury brands such as Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, US-based influencers Kelly Fitzpatrick and Sabrina Kelly-Krejci have been alleged for promoting listings that would be categorized as unbranded products on this e-commerce retail chain, according to Business Insider.
Fitzpatrick was also previously a member of the Amazon Associated program, which specifically allows members to receive a percentage of the sales whenever there is a link to Amazon products.
Fitzpatrick and Kelly-Krejci had also promoted the items on their pages as ‘designer dupes’ using use the ‘disguised’ links which directed visitors to her website.
This duo came up with a scheme by facilitating the sale of fake goods for well-established brands around the globe by using their personal Instagram accounts to advertise and promote fashion knock-offs by linking up with a range of third-party sellers.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington last Thursday, also identifies 11 individuals and businesses based in the US and China who have reportedly listed the counterfeit items for sale on Amazon.com.
In addition, they’re seeking an injunction against the alleged sellers and business for a ban from selling or promoted any future products sold on the website.
