In another positive sign things are returning to normal in the world of travel, Emirates announced it’s recommencing flights to more destinations.
The Dubai-based airline revealed scheduled flights would be relaunching to another 10 destinations across four continents.
The cities are as follows:
- June 20 – Colombo
- June 24 – Sialkot
- June 25 – Istanbul
- July 1 – Auckland, Beirut, Brussels, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
- July 15 – Barcelona and Washington DC
These additional flights now brings the airline’s total to 40. However, in the latest announcement from Emirates the airline clarified that “flights from Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Pakistan, will only carry outbound passengers to the UAE and onward destinations”.

Not only is the airline adding to its destination pool, it’s also increasing the number of flights to 14 cities as of July. These destinations include: London Heathrow, Manchester, Frankfurt, Paris, Zurich, Madrid, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, New York JFK, Toronto, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong.
This latest move from Emirates comes after the criteria for certain UAE residents and citizens being able to travel was announced by the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority.
In a media briefing on Wednesday night, Dr. Saif Al Dhaheri, spokesperson for the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority announced that a “strategy” has been put in place to allow certain citizens and residents to travel, outlining how certain countries have been categorised in terms of COVID-19 risk factors.
“Travel will be allowed to certain destinations according to a strategy that has classified all countries of the world into three categories: the first is classified as low-risk nations, to which all citizens and residents are allowed to travel,” he said.
“The second is medium-risk nations to which only a limited category of citizens are allowed to travel to in case of emergency, namely for necessary medical reasons, visiting first-degree family members, or for military, diplomatic and official missions. The third are high-risk countries to which travel is categorically banned.”
Earlier this month, Chief Operating Officer of Emirates, Adel Al Redha discussed the “strong comeback” the airline is hoping to have over the next few weeks, with the goal of adding 50 destinations to its flight schedule this month.
Well, it certainly seems like the airline is now on track to achieving that goal.
