The delightfully eccentric British designer Vivienne Westwood has redesigned Virgin Atlantic’s uniforms, which will be worn by 7,500 members of staff including cabin crew, pilots and Clubhouse employees – suddenly wearing work attire has just become fashionable.
Virgin Atlantic boss Richard Branson chose Westwood to revamp the 10-year-old uniforms because she is “the one person in this world who could create unique designs.”
In keeping with Westwood’s views on sustainable fashion, the ensembles are made using recycled materials, including polyester yarn that originated from plastic bottles and canvas from reused roadside banners.
Also true to form, the uniforms boast the designer’s signature well-tailored, figure-hugging styles. She said: “My clothes have always got a very strong dynamic rapport with the body – they are very body conscious, they help you to look glamorous.”
The uniforms will be debuted in July, before their official launch in 2014.
