Who knew jewellery could be so empowering?

Fashion’s most prestigious award ceremony was held in London earlier this week, but it was Meghan Markle’s surprise appearance, to honour Givenchy‘s Clare Waight Keller with the Womenswear Designer of the Year award all anyone could talk about.

The mother-to-be dazzled in a custom made one-shoulder Givenchy gown, and rolled heads with her choice of nail-polish color, but it was the meaning behind her jewelry that caught our interest.

Meghan radiated elegance and simplicity at the Fashion Awards as she accessorized her look with three gold bangled and a pair of earring from British jeweler Pippa Small. The pieces donned by the Duchess are from Small’s Turquoise Mountain Foundation, which is a Afghanistan-based charity, founded by Prince Charles in 2006.

The “Wajiha” cuff, “Oshna” and “Omeen” bangles, and “Nosheen” earrings that she was wearing were made by local artists, who the organization is helping train to preserve their culture, heritage, and tradition. Pippa Small shared an image of Meghan on their Instagram saying, “Honoured to see the beautiful Duchess of Sussex wearing our bangles and stud earrings proudly made by artisans of the @TurquoiseMountain foundation in Afghanistan. Working to train and employ young men and women in conflict areas.”

This is not the first time that Meghan shows her support for the Afghani artisan, as she has been photographed rocking these same bangles during her first royal tour of Fiji, with husband Prince Harry this October.

We love to see Meghan empower women through her fashion choices.
