School fees can eat up a pretty significant portion of the family budget in Dubai, so we’re thinking this news will be greeted with a sigh of relief.
The Executive Council of Dubai, led by Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has announced a freeze on private school fees in the emirate.

Fees won’t increase for the 2018-19 school year, the council said via the Dubai Media Office.
The move came as part of a broader set of measures set to make Dubai more affordable for businesses — 19 fees relating to the aviation industry were also cancelled.
Market fees collected by the Dubai Municipality were halved from five per cent.

On Twitter, Sheikh Hamdan said the school fee freeze aimed to make life easier for parents.
“We ordered an immediate freeze on the tuition fees of all private schools in Dubai for the coming academic year (2018-2019), in order to reduce the financial burden on parents,” the crown prince wrote.

The freeze was set to come into effect immediately, and schools would be informed as soon as possible.
These moves come just weeks after HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced 10-year visas for some residents.
