We love this initiative, and it’s back for 2018.
Ramadan isn’t far away at all — experts predict it will start on May 17 — and it’s got us thinking about how best to give back.
The good news? One of our favourite Dubai-based programmes will be running again this year.
What’s On Dubai reports that the Ramadan Sharing Fridges group is gearing up for the Holy Month already, with a map of fridges available now.

If you’re new to the UAE, you might not have heard of this. Now in its third year, Ramadan Sharing Fridges group manages outdoor fridges around the city that are stocked with water, juices and snacks for blue collar workers to help themselves to.
The initiative began in 2016 with the formation of a Facebook group encouraging people to set up fridges outside their homes and businesses.
Now it has almost 24,000 members, and last year, they kept 170 fridges stocked throughout the Holy Month.
The group maintains a map of fridges around the city, and as fridge manager Anne Mulcahy told What’s On Dubai, it’s as much about keeping each one stocked as it is about adding new spots.
“It’s hard… to keep a continuous supply for a month. Better having only one fridge that is full in a community than several empty,” Mulcahy told the site.
If you’re keen to help out, the best thing to do is join the Facebook group and follow their Instagram.
“We pride ourselves in being organic and flourishing as things happen – there’s always something new happening,” Mulcahy told What’s On Dubai.
We can’t think of a more worthy cause. The group is only licenced for the Holy Month, so keep an eye on their pages for updates until then.
