We don’t have good news if you were hoping for a three-day weekend.

This year’s Isra’a Wal Mi’raj holiday will fall on Saturday April 14 in the UAE, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has confirmed.

For those who were hoping for a three-day weekend, it’s not good news, but public sector employees scheduled to work on Saturday will get the day off.

Is this when Ramadan will begin this year?

The National reports that while the private sector hasn’t yet made an official call, an extra day off on Thursday or Sunday is very unlikely at this stage.

The Isra’a Wal Mi’raj holiday marks the night that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) travelled from Mecca to Jerusalem and then ascended to heaven.

While there won’t be an extra day off, the holiday will be observed with a dry day across the UAE. That means that no alcohol will be served in any outlets—hotels included—from 6pm on Friday April 13 to 7pm on Saturday April 14.

Effectively, it’s a dry day as well as a night.

So, what else is coming up on the calendar?

Back in March, the Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences said the Holy Month of Ramadan was most likely to begin on May 17.

The first day of Eid Al Fitr—which marks the end of Ramadan—was predicted to fall on June 15.
