On Monday night, the brightest stars from the UAE art (and society) scene turned up in all their fabulousness to view the latest collections ready to go to auction under the Christie’s hammer today.
The Godolphin Ballroom at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers was transformed into a makeshift gallery where around every twist and turn guests uncovered more beautiful pieces of art by artists from across the region, ranging from contemporary pieces to works with a more traditional Arabic influence.
Highlights of the exhibition ranged from the iconic works ‘Secret Garden’ by Farhad Moshiri (expected to fetch between Dhs1 million and Dhs2 million) and ‘Rêve 16’ by Syrian artist Safwan Dahoul (priced between Dhs300,000 and Dhs550,000) to, at the other end of the spectrum, artists like Lateefa Bint Maktoum and Khalid Al-Banna exhibiting pieces within the Dhs14,000 to Dhs22,000 range.
Guests were treated to buckets of bubbles, delectable duck pâté and mini cheesecakes while talking art all the way to the bank. Our money is on the Moshiri.
