Plus another Middle Eastern style triumph.

Every job, no matter how fun, has its moments of tedium. Daily life happens, you’re drowning in emails, and the weekend seems about a hundred years away.

Then, if you’re in our line of work, you see a dress that makes you look twice. You smile. Things aren’t so bad.

We’ve made you a shortlist of 20 New Year’s party dresses

Today we’ve got two of those, and the first is a late entry to our favourite gowns of the year.

It’s from one of Lebanon’s finest, Zuhair Murad, and it comes via actress Priyanka Chopra. For your reference:

That bold fushcia pink, the strapless neckline, the ruffled side – it’s this close to Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend era Marilyn Monroe.

Which, we shouldn’t need to explain, is absolutely a positive. Chopra’s gown is frothy and fun. She looks incredible, and better yet, it’s memorable. Refreshing at a time when many red carpet looks play it safe.

The 35-year-old was attending India’s Zee Cinema Awards in Mumbai.

Also glowing courtesy of a Middle Eastern designer was fellow actress Gina Rodriguez, best known for the TV show Jane the Virgin.

At a screening of her new animated film Ferdinand, Rodriguez wore an emerald green beaded tulle number from Beiruti designer Georges Chakra.

While a little more restrained than Chopra’s look, it’s no less gorgeous. Rodriguez looks like an elegant woodland sprite.

Remind us why anyone bothers wearing designers from any other part of the world?
